Made by Apes is a platform built by Yuga to verify, support, and amplify community-made BAYC and MAYC NFT brands and products. This platform allows BAYC and MAYC holders to request a license to use the Made by Apes logo with those projects. The full terms of the license are available at: BAYC License and MAYC License.

The Made by Apes license is a certification that the product/service provider owns or has licensed a legitimate BAYC or MAYC NFT.

The Bodega will display all Made by Ape licensees. You will be able to browse through other BAYC and MAYC community built products that use their BAYC and MAYC NFTs to build their brand. It is also a great way to check if a product with a Made by Apes logo has a valid license.

The Bodega and the Made by Apes logo are not an endorsement of the projects/products displayed. The Bodega will be launched later this summer.

It takes anywhere from 7 to 14 days to successfully review the application.

One ape, multiple projects.

• You can have multiple licenses for the same ape.
• If your ape is used in several projects, you need a separate license for each one unless registering for multiple products upfront with the same business.
• There is no limit on the number of licenses a BAYC or MAYC NFT holder can request.

One project, multiple apes.

• If you have a project that uses multiple apes, you need one license per ape, but can register the project under one master license and add the other apes as sublicenses.
• If the apes are owned by multiple parties, each ape holder will need to request a license and consent to the use of the IP and Made by Ape license.
• We currently can only support one ape per master license.

There is no limit on the number of licenses a BAYC or MAYC token can request.

Approved licensees will receive a customized Made by Apes logo with a license number. The logo can be used in connection with the project that was identified in the approved application. e.g., if you submit an application to use the logo on a t-shirt then the logo cannot be used on a beer can.

With a Made by Apes license, you can use the Made by Apes logo in derivative and commercial projects that use your whole NFT image (no partial images or uses or individual traits) that create physical or digital goods or services like:

• Clothing
• Food
• Beverage, including alcohol
• Cannabis, where legal
• Restaurants
• Entertainment, like music videos
• Storytelling
• Games
• Toys & collectibles
• Derivatives
• Subcommunities

As long as you follow the use rules, you can use the entire BAYC or MAYC NFT image in your derivative or commercial projects almost any way you like:

• Projects featuring just the image of your NFT as a brand, front and center
• The image of your NFT alongside any other logos or trademarks you have the rights to use
• The image of multiple Yuga Labs NFTs together (as long as you own them all) for a single or multiple projects
• The image of your NFT across multiple connected or unconnected projects

You can use the logo alongside a BAYC or MAYC NFT, but not as a stand-alone logo. The MBA logo also cannot be used more prominently than the BAYC or MAYC NFT. Made by Apes Licensees have to comply with the BAYC and MAYC license terms at all times. Valid Made by Apes licensees can display the Made by Apes logo, with the projects alongside images of BAYC or MAYC NFTs. The Made By Apes logo must be used as-is, with your unique license number displayed.

No monkey business. We reserve the right to deny/withdraw any license. Keep in mind:

• No illegal substances
• No slander, profanity, or hate speech
• No infringement of other IP (Yuga will not protect this)
• No obscene/indecent materials.

No, the Made by Apes license does not grant any right to use the BAYC skull and logo (or any other Yuga Labs mark). The only exception is if your BAYC or MAYC NFT has a trait that includes a particular Yuga mark — such as an Ape wearing a hat or t-shirt that has a BAYC skull or logo on it, in which case, the trait can appear but only as it does within the entire NFT image, and not as an individual or separated trait.

Yuga grants NFT holders a broad license to use the art associated with their BAYC and MAYC NFTs. All those rights are here. But that use license doesn’t mean ownership. Yuga retains ownership of all intellectual property rights in that art, and any other materials Yuga creates (like names, logos, characters, storylines, individual NFT traits, etc.). So Yuga owns all copyright, trademark, patent and other intellectual property rights to things like:

• Yuga Labs and the “Y” logo
• Bored Ape Yacht Club, Bored Ape and the BAYC abbreviation
• The BAYC skull
• Mutant Ape Yacht Club and the MAYC abbreviation
• Bored Ape Kennel Club and the BAKC abbreviation
• ApeFest

The license expires 6 months after the initial approval. After those 6 months, you will be able to renew your license.

No, the license is bound to the BAYC or MAYC NFT ID and the Ethereum address that requested it. If you transfer or sell your BAYC or MAYC, the license is automatically invalidated.

If you sell your BAYC or MAYC NFT, the license is automatically invalidated and will not carry on to the new owner. The new owner may wish to obtain a new license if they wish to do so.

If you transfer your BAYC or MAYC NFT, the license is automatically invalidated and will not carry on to the new wallet. You may request to renew your license with your new wallet.

Currently we are not accepting changes to the Bodega. Please ensure all questions are answered accurately in the questionnaire when you request your license, otherwise you will need to re-register your license.

All valid Made by Apes logos will have a license number under the logo. You can verify if a product has an authentic Made by Apes license by searching for the license number in the Bodega. If it appears in the Bodega it means that the license is current and valid.

Our legal team is currently working on an initiative to highlight our communities’ creativity and entrepreneurship using their own, distinguishable marks; therefore, we are encouraging our community groups to come up with their own unique logos that avoid the use of Yuga Labs’ Ape Skull Logo or other Yuga Labs Logos in an effort to help celebrate the global diversity of the club. Similar to traditional yacht clubs, we want each of our communities to have their own unique logo or flag to represent their local affiliation within the broader Bored Ape Yacht Club and will reach out if we haven’t done so already to work with you to make updates accordingly.

The information requested is reviewed by the Yuga Labs legal department to assess the approval of the license. The Bodega will display your Made by Apes license number, business name, logo, banner as well as the detailed product description you enter in your application.
